Human Rights & Social Accountability
Promoting human rights, social accountability, transparency and the meaningful participation of young people.
Kiyunga Social Service Centre works with adolescents, young people, women and communities to promote human rights, education, health, gender equality, economic empowerment and sustainable development.
Kiyunga Social Service Centre, also known as Action for Youth Development Uganda, is an indigenous not-for-profit, youth community-driven and advocacy organisation. It was founded in 2010 and became operational in 2014, with its head office in Jinja District.
KSSC focuses on adolescents and young people, working alongside citizens and community-based organisations to address the challenges young people face and to influence issues, policies and development processes at grassroots, local and national levels.
Seven connected areas of work, drawn from the objectives set out in our 2022–2027 strategic workplan.
Promoting human rights, social accountability, transparency and the meaningful participation of young people.
Supporting girls’ education and working to address child marriage, teenage pregnancy and gender-based violence.
Promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, and access to youth-friendly information and services.
Supporting entrepreneurship, financial literacy, livelihood skills, creativity and innovation among young people.
Promoting gender equality and challenging practices and systems that increase the vulnerability of women and girls.
Raising awareness about climate justice, environmental protection and green-based technologies.
Creating opportunities for adolescents and young people to take part meaningfully in leadership, decision-making and community development.
Ten programmes carry this work into schools, health facilities, youth groups and community meetings.
Eliminating illiteracy from the community through educating orphans and vulnerable children, and promoting development in their households as well as the entire community.
We exist to promote sustainability for the integral development of orphans and vulnerable children, their households and immediate communities.
KSSC aims to create space for adolescents and young people to reshape, redirect and uphold the values of social transformative leadership through advocacy, training, capacity building, networking and research.
That purpose shapes the overarching goal of our strategic workplan: to advocate, promote and strengthen the participation of adolescents and young people in human rights and decision-making processes, and to create space for them to take part actively and meaningfully in the development of their country.
Seven goals guide our work over the current five-year period.
